Art Meets Emotion in Morning Star’s SELebrate! Exhibition

SINGAPORE, 1 June 2025 – Morning Star Community Services is proud to launch its public awareness campaign, SELebrate!, with a public art exhibition at Bedok Public Library. Titled SELebrate! – The Colours of Emotion: A Journey in Art, the exhibition runs from 1 to 29 June 2025, inviting families, educators, and the wider community to explore Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through the expressive lens of children.

What is SELebrate!?

SELebrate! is a year-long campaign aimed at nurturing stronger families, resilient communities, and emotionally healthy individuals through SEL. Aligned with Singapore’s national priorities around mental wellness and family bonding, the campaign includes workshops, digital content, and collaborations across schools, libraries, and public spaces.

The Bedok Library Exhibition: A Creative Entry Point into SEL

The June exhibition serves as the kick-off activation of the campaign, timed with the school holidays to maximise family engagement. It showcases artworks by children aged 7 to 12 that explore six core emotions—joy, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, and disgust—through colour, texture, movement, and story.

“This exhibition is a window into how children see and feel the world around them. Through art, they learn to name, understand, and regulate their emotions—a key building block of mental wellness,” said Freddie Low, Executive Director of Morning Star Community Services. “In support of National Family Week and the June holidays, it’s also a timely reminder that emotional resilience begins at home—and that families can grow stronger when we understand each other’s inner worlds.”

A Silent Video Essay, Enriched with Sound by SSO

A highlight of the exhibition is a silent video essay, displayed on the Level 3 entrance video wall, featuring selected artworks animated with soft transitions and ambient visuals. To deepen the emotional experience, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) has partnered with Morning Star to provide a curated music accompaniment for the digital version of the video.

The chosen piece is Holiday, the fifth movement of Day In The Lion City—an orchestral suite by Singaporean composer Kelly Tang, performed by the SSO. This movement paints a multicultural portrait of Singapore during festive celebrations. A playful scherzo captures the tentative steps of toddlers—our next generation—ending with a jubilant reprise of Three Blind Mice.

Visitors to the exhibition can access the full audio-visual experience by scanning a QR code on-site. The version with music will also be made available through digital press platforms and Morning Star’s online channels.
