More than Words 2016, True Colours, True Hearts
*A collaboration with Tan Chin Tuan Foundation since 2013
On 8 September 2016, 45 children from Morning Star Community Services performed in front of an 850-strong audience at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). Themed “True Colours, True Hearts”, the children acted their own rendition of the stories from the popular books “Harold and the Purple Crayon” and “The Day the Crayons Quit”. They were part of the 200 performance team from 25 charities and beneficiaries supported by Tan Chin Tuan Foundation (TCTF).
Leading up to the showcase, the 45 children from Morning Star Community Services went through 9 sessions of 75-minute training workshops which were conducted by the ACTS of Life theatre group. Over the 3 month duration of workshops, the children participated actively in dramatic play and creative learning.
After their performance, each child took home a More Than Words Book, “True Colours, True Hearts” gifted by TCTF to guests. The book is a compilation of the words and illustrations of many of the children who attended and performed.
*Since its initiation in 2013, the TCTF’s More than Words programme had reached over 2500 beneficiaries, offering them workshops on creative acting, storytelling and other learning opportunities. It has been TCTF’s hope to enrich, educate and nurture each and every child through the More than Words journey.
