Parents and the Family
Dual income families are now the norm and we are also having more single-parent families where the single parent has to work. The role of the primary care giver has been abdicated to maids, baby-sitters and child-care teachers. Parenting has been virtually reduced to providing. Family time has to be sacrificed to make ends meet with the result that as parents we are frequently at a loss as to how to guide and relate with our children.
Fully aware that parenting is one of the most important skills in life but also one that parents are least equipped with, we offer programmes and services that fill this void. These include workshops on parenting, parent-child, parent-teen and parents support group.
Firm Foundation for Families Series
Parent-Child Programmes
In our Firm Foundation for Families series, we have parent-child programmes that are specifically designed to facilitate bonding and expression of love between parents and their children. These experiential workshops encourage parents and children to work towards really knowing each other and to be proactive in strengthening family relationships.
Parent-Teens Programmes
Many parent-teens relationships today are strained and challenged by tension, disagreements, power struggles and conflicting influences. Unresolved tension in family relationships often lead to withdrawal among youth resulting in them being more vulnerable to powerful influences from the media and peers. As our lifestyles become more and more complex, it is critical that we find ways to facilitate greater connection between teens and their parents. In Shoot for the Stars, we offer a series of Parent-Teens experiential workshops that are specifically designed to accomplish this.
Parenting Programmes
Through our Firm Foundation for Families series, we also offer parenting talks, workshops and seminars that address the practical concerns of today's parents.
The topics of interest include:
- Passing on values to our children
- Raising responsible children
- Discipline without hurting
- Relating to our children
- Helping our children learn
Our Common Sense Parenting Workshops have raised the confidence of many parents through empowering them with skills and awareness.
“ I saw a great improvement in the behaviour of my child after attending the Common Sense Parenting Workshop. Now he listens to me and follows instructions without arguing and throwing tantrums. ”
