Our Family and the Community

Building Enduring Family Connections

“ A happy family is but an earlier heaven. ”
John Bowring

To experience the home as a haven, where relationships thrive and each person is celebrated, is what we all look for in family life.

However, in today's high-achieving society, families face multiple challenges of having to excel at work and in school. Parents have to provide for the family whilst raising responsible and happy children. Children and youth face the challenges of achieving academic success; handling peer pressure; decision making; and discovering their identity and their place in the world. Spouses face the crunch of "no time" and "no energy" to nurture their relationship. Some of our elderly see themselves as less capable than before and face a lonely existence.

With each stressor faced, there are accompanying feelings of helplessness and inadequacy that need to be supported and resolved. If the stressors faced by families are not managed well, taxing situations worsen and relationships suffer. The home is no longer experienced as a haven but a torture chamber where pain is tolerated. At Morning Star, we believe that people and families cannot be limited or defined by the circumstances they face. Each of our services and programmes is developed to address the practical needs of individuals and families; to facilitate awareness, understanding, healthy interactions, skills, and community support to effectively address the issues and concerns that arise out of the situation faced.
