Student Care Services

“ Life is definitely not just about academic success but it also means failure, dreams, handling emotional loss and knowing each person is special in his own ways. I found Morning Star has done very well in this life enrichment area. ”

Our before and after school care service supports the needs of families who need care and guidance for their primary school going children during their off-school hours.

In Morning Star, children are encountered as persons and not just students. We offer an environment where children, in addition to learning to be independent and responsible for their own behaviour and education, also learn how to get along with one another.

We constantly strive to provide a holistic and balanced programme to enhance each child's intellectual abilities, emotional development, social skills, character formation and physical growth.

Our Student Care Facilitators create interesting curriculum-based Learning Stations and theme-based Learning Centre activities to facilitate our children's learning through creative and interactive ways. These activities challenge each child to discover and enjoy learning in a fun and meaningful way in addition to teaching them problem-solving and life-skills.

We believe in providing a conducive environment for all the children who are entrusted to us to be happy. This we do by looking into their physical needs and more importantly, by encountering them as individuals who we care about. We train our Facilitators to pay close attention to each child and to manage them positively.

Equally important, we believe we can guide our children best by working closely with their parents. Parents are kept posted about their children's progress and frequently invited to participate in our various family life and parent-child programmes and activities. Children benefit most when their parents are involved and participate in our programmes. It is also one of the ways we connect families and grow in community.

Q7 How soon do I need to inform the Centre if I wish to withdraw my child?

The Centre requires a one-month written notice either on the 1st or 15th of the month. Thus, if you wish to withdraw your child in February, you have to give the Centre a written letter by the end of January or the first day of February. The last day for the child at the Centre is the end of February. Please obtain withdrawal form from the Centre Administrator/Facilitator.

Q8 Will transport be provided for my child?

No. You have to contact your child's school's authorised transport company to fetch your child to our Centre.

Q9 How will the children go to school when it is raining?

When the rain is light, we will walk them to school using raincoats or umbrellas.

Q10 Can my child do his/her school homework in the Centre?

Yes. We have more than 45 minutes of study time each day and the children can do their homework during this time. If the children have finished their homework at home, or have no homework, we will assign them with other learning activities.

Q11 If my child is not able to do his/her homework, will there be help from the Centre?

If the children are able to do most of their homework, and need help with a few questions, we will be able to help. However, if the children do not know how to do most of their homework, we will not be able to tutor them.

Q12 Can my child bring his/her tuition homework or home assessment books to do at the Centre?

Yes. After they have finished or if they do not have any homework for that day during the study time, we will assign them other activities. Hence, the children will be given sufficient work to keep them meaningfully engaged in learning during study time. When the school homework is done, and you prefer him/her to do tuition homework or your assessment books, your child will need to be able to do the work independently.

Q13 Can my child do homework when he/she arrives at the Centre (7.30 - 8.30am)?

It is preferred if your child can complete the homework during study time. On days when your child has more homework, we will allow your child to do homework in the early morning (7.30 - 8.30am). However, during this Quiet Reading time, there will be no coaching for homework.

Q14 Will my child be sent to school earlier for remedial, enrichment, supplementary or CCA classes?

Children from Primary 2 and above will need to go to school on their own. Parents will need to train their child how to walk to school safely. Our facilitators will send Primary 1 children to school for Learning Support Programmes only. For all children enrolled in optional enrichment programmes. They are to remain in school and take their lunch there.

Q15 Can my child bring breakfast to eat at your Centre?

We would prefer that your child finish breakfast before coming to the Centre. However, children who come before 8 am can eat their breakfast at the designated dining area.

Q16 My child does not like to eat vegetables. Can he/she be excused from eating vegetables?

All our Centres provide nutritious and balanced meals. We teach our children how to make wise food choices. We will encourage all our children to try to eat some unless they have reason to be excused.

Q17 My child needs to take medication. Can your Centre help to give the medication?

We will need you to fill in a form to state the medication to be taken. Our personnel will supervise your child while the medication is being consumed but will not dispense the medication to your child.

Q18 Can I leave my child outside the centre in the morning before 7.30am?

For all Primary 1 children, they are to be accompanied by their parents until we open the Centre at 7.30am. They cannot be left alone as it will not be safe for them. For older children, we can allow them to wait outside only if they can keep themselves safe.
