Josephine is the Training and Workshops Manager at Morning Star. She has been in education service since 1993. She had taught in a number of schools, impacting numerous pupils in their learning with her innovative and effective teaching pedagogies. She was also actively involved in the professional development of other educators. She spearheaded and led the Centre of Pedagogical Excellence, planning and reviewing the school curriculum as well as researching and implementing current teaching pedagogies.

 

Josephine planned and conducted a number of professional development workshops for teachers, equipping them with effective skills from The Skilful Teacher framework by Research for Better Teaching (USA) founded by Dr Jon Saphier. In addition, she led a Community of Practitioners of primary school English language teachers to research on the impact of holistic assessment for primary school pupils and drew up a set of assessment tools to guide teachers in assessing language acquisition.

 

Her keen interest in education led her to collaborate with and coach parents and families to better support and nurture young children in their developmental journey into socially and emotionally resilient individuals. Josephine is accredited to conduct evidence-based programmes like Positive Parenting Programme (Triple P), Signposts for Building Better Behaviour and Common Sense Parenting®.

 

Workshop participants appreciate that Josephine is able to connect the theoretical aspects of evidence-based programmes to authentic situations relevant to participant’s experience and breaking them down to bite-sized tips for easy reference and application. Her pursuit to learn more about learning development in children and adults has led her to take on a Masters course in Developmental Psychology with NIE/NTU. She will also be championing The Incredible Years programmes, developed by Dr Carolyn Webster-Stratton, USA, to Singapore families.

 

Some Family Life Education programmes developed by Josephine are Academic Coaching through child-directed play, Social Coaching through child-directed play, Parenting Self-confident Learners, Peep Peep Time Out!, Volunteering with a Difference, What’s Up Dad, Walking In Your Shoes and Values for Life, a fun-filled experiential workshop for both parents and children on character development.

Agnes trained as a medical doctor in London, England and has worked there as well as in Singapore. She gave up her medical practice to pursue mission work for over a decade.

 

Agnes currently works as a Trainer, Counsellor and Family Life Educator – she holds a Master of Social Science in Professional Counselling, and a Graduate Certificate in Parent Education Leadership Training, both from Swinburne University, Australia. She is also a Registered Counsellor with Singapore Association for Counselling.

 

She enjoys teaching and has taught the Bachelor of Social Science and Diploma in Counselling Skills for Edith Cowan University, Certificate in Practical Counselling classes, Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses in Student Care, and has also taught and supervised trainee School Counsellors. Brian is a certified Common Sense Parenting Trainer. A graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, Double Majoring in Psychology and Organisational Communications, Brian has been working with youth, young adults, parents and families since 1993 in areas of coordinating, training, coaching and teaching positions with various community organisations both in Singapore and in the United States.

 

He is passionate about championing evidence-based programmes for educators, administrators and school staff developed by Boystown, USA. Brian has conducted numerous Common Sense Parenting training workshops for caregivers and educators, who found his training relevant and easy to apply.

Catherine graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in History. She is also an Adult Educator with an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment and a Specialist Diploma in Counselling Psychology as well as a Licensed Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming.

 

Catherine has been an Adult Educator with ten years of training experience conducting courses to youths, corporate participants, housewives, job seekers, teen offenders and inmates from the men’s and women’s prison. Courses include Personal Effectiveness, Adapting to Change, Emotional Competence, Communication Skills, Problem Solving, Service Excellence and Coaching and Management skills.

Prior to her switch to training, Catherine had a rich corporate experience in operations, customer service and management. As a trained counsellor, Esther works closely with families, children, couples and ex-offenders bridging family relationships and working towards quality communication crucial to stronger bonds and deeper understanding. Halbert began his career as a Civil Engineer having graduated from NTU in 1988. He then proceeded to give up his professional career to become a pastor for his church for 20 years. During that time, he had the opportunity to empower families and individuals in church and community platforms. He was able to initiate impacting programmes for the underprivileged during his time in Penang, Malaysia.

 

In 2011, he embarked on another career switch to work as a trainer, having obtained his certification in ACTA. He initially served as a life skills lecturer with ITE students in ITE Central. In 2013, he obtained his certification as an ICF trained life-coach. In 2015, he obtained his accreditation as a Triple P Practitioner. He holds a Master’s degree in Counselling and is a Registered Counsellor with SAC specialising in marriage counselling. Despite leaving the full time ministry in his church, he remains a key lay leader; mentoring younger parents and married couples.

 

Halbert has been conducting parenting workshops, family bonding and student talks in schools under FM@S platform in Singapore since 2011. His strength is in delivering workshops with clear outcomes that also engage the audience. He also does mental wellness programmes in the corporate platform.

She is currently a freelance Counsellor. Harjit has been happily married for 20 years and is a mother of two children aged 14 years and 16 years. She is passionate about family bonding and is a strong advocate for quality family life.

 

She has been volunteering in Children’s Homes and Welfare organisations for 17 years. She is also actively involved in organising and promoting family life activities and reaching out to families in the community as a volunteer for about nine years. Jean has Master of Social Science (Professional Counselling) awarded by the University of Swinburne University of Technology after she left her previous profession in the insurance industry. She considers this switch from the corporate sector to the helping profession as a calling. This added impetus provides a purpose to what she wants to do to strengthen family relationships in the community.

 

As a school counsellor, Jean worked with students of both genders ranging from ages 12 to 17. Jean believes that adolescence is first and foremost a cataclysmic transition from childhood to adulthood. This is the reason why she endeavours to help and support teenagers as much as she could.

 

She also helps parents how to communicate and support their children in a warm and sensitive parenting style that takes into account of the child’s needs, feelings and peculiarities of temperament. Jenny founded Family Tales in 2012, resetting her life goals to help parents manage their family life.  The birth of her daughter Ally, now seven, has given Jenny a practical perspective on the challenges faced by dual-income couples.

 

Jenny is passionate about helping parents confidently navigate their parenting journey at a manageable pace, nurturing their children in a safe environment and strengthening those important family bonds.

Jenny has over 16 years of successful senior management experience in the corporate world. Rebecca has been an MOE Teacher for more than 27 years. Besides classroom teaching, she had also undertaken the responsibilities of a Teacher Counsellor and a School Chaplain. She has undergone training in MOE’s pastoral care and sexuality programmes and has counselled and touched the hearts of many students throughout the years. During her tenure, she has received the Caring Teacher award from National Institute of Education. Rebecca is equally adept in incorporating large or small group learning for students, having been trained in the areas of strategies for English Language learning and reading, as well as in learning support.  In this line of work, she has developed Individual Educational Plans for students and supported both parents and teachers alike.

 

As a certified Parent Educator, she has conducted well-received workshops for parents and teachers on how to support and engage their children and students in their learning.  In addition, she has run programmes for children and parents in the areas of managing transitions in family relationships as a Certified Director for the Rainbows programme catering to single-parent families, healthy sexuality, managing misbehaviours and parent-child communication.

Samuel provided counselling & intervention for community cases as well as within the Enhanced Step-Up Programme (ESU) managed by MOE & MSF. He had overseen case management and subsidy administration for at-risk families by connecting them with community resources, government ministries, statutory boards and various social enterprises.

 

Samuel is a mid-career professional with ten years of experience in Information Technology and five years in the field of child development and mental health. In his previous line of work, he was an IT network engineer and administrator supporting commercial, banking and trading services. After completing his degree in psychology, Samuel joined the education sector as a special needs teacher supporting children with mild intellectual disabilities.

 

As a form teacher for a class of 15-20 special needs children, his responsibilities included: crafting and implementation of Individual Education Plans, Parent liaising and skills coaching, creation of needs-specific resources, formulation of subject curriculum and assessments, and the day-to-day child management of his students.

 

Additionally, due to his previous work experience, Samuel was also designated as the school’s IT coordinator. In collaboration with IAC (Infocomm Accessibility Centre), he conceptualised and implemented a new IT curriculum for the upper primary and secondary levels.

 

In his role as a counsellor today, Samuel works primarily with school (primary & secondary) children and their parents. He helps each child and family address their concerns through parent coaching and individual counselling sessions focused on the following areas: work habits & routines, behaviours & self-regulation, emotions and esteem, family dynamics and communication.

Siti has a Bachelor Degree Counselling awarded by the SIM University and Diplomas in Counselling & Family Education and Production Engineering.  She has been in the Family Life Education profession for the last eight years and is currently a freelance Resource Trainer.

 

As a resource trainer, she worked closely with numerous parents, coaching and supporting them in their parenting journey with their children. The parents benefited from her guidance and went on to build closer relationships with their children. She has also planned and held many family bonding events to encourage families to foster closer ties among one another.

 

A passionate Family Life Educator, Siti has been conducting coffee talks in schools and community such as ‘Understanding PIES’, ‘Good enough Parenting’, ‘Basics of Communication’, ‘5 Love Languages’ and ‘Love Them Talk About Sex’ in both English and Malay. Apart from having experience running a kids-at-risk programme called ‘Sunshine Clubhouse’ in a primary school, she is also a Befriender-Trainer for a home-based family life education programme for low income family.

 

Siti has been a trainer for Muslim Marriage Preparatory Programme for the past eight years and had conducted sessions at libraries, mosques and education centres in both English and Malay. She also had more than a year experience in training inmates for pre-release ‘Mindset Change’ Programme.

Siti has been happily married for 22 years and is a mother of two teenage children. She is passionate about family life and is a strong advocate for quality family life.

 

Her prior experience as an Assistant Engineer is also instrumental in assisting parents to manage work-life harmony. She and her husband are also actively involved as community volunteers.

Steven is trained as a Counsellor and a Family Life Educator. He holds a Master of Social Science in Counseling from University of South Australia, and a Graduate Certificate in Parent Education Leadership Training (PELT) from Swinburne University, Australia. He is also a Registered Counsellor with Singapore Association for Counselling.

 

Steven has conducted family life talks for over 20 years. He is a highly experienced and well sought-after speaker in schools and in organizations, and connects well with parents with his sincere, interactive and engaging style. Steven has lectured part-time for the Diploma in Counselling Skills for Edith Cowan University and also conducted Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses in Student Care.

 

Steven excels in many areas of sports and is a fun-loving family man who also enjoys conducting children programmes and parent-child bonding workshops. Steven is a certified trainer for “Good Enough Parenting”, “I Choose Us” marriage programmes, and Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme), among others.

 

Steven is happily married for over two decades. He and his wife have two young adult children. They work closely as a couple, and are passionate about building strong and resilient families.

Tricia has recently obtained her Master degree in Professional Counselling awarded by Swinburne University of Technology. She started her career in the corporate sector and after spending 13 years working in global companies, she went on to set up an executive search firm with a partner where she enjoyed the opportunities to help and coach professionals in their choice of career path.

 

While working, Tricia has also been actively serving for more than ten years in the Pastoral Counselling Ministry in her church as a facilitator in a group work programme designed for personal self-discovery and healing, and in the last two years as a counsellor. Her work in this area led her eventually to pursue a Masters degree in counselling. With a keen interest to move deeper into couple and family-related work, she took on Family Therapy as an elective track.

 

She has been happily married for 19 years and is a mother of three children. Together with her husband, their priority and focus in parenting has always been to teach the right values and inculcate good character traits in their children. They firmly believe their parental responsibility is first and foremost to raise them to be confident, secure and responsible individuals so that each will be an asset to the society.

 

As a strong advocate for healthy family values and life, Tricia is also conducting the Common Sense Parenting workshop which aims to empower parents with effective and practical skills in teaching and encouraging their children toward positive behaviours.
